Q: Introduce yourself
My name is Boris, I’m a DJ, Producer and Live-Act from Basel, Switzerland. I produce music with my solo-project “AVEM” and also in the duo “Digitule”. I also curate the digital label called LOKD, alongside my good friend Dandara.
Q: Analog or Digital and why?
Both! Producing without a DAW is quite the challenge and I’m very happy to have the privilege of useful software to collect and arrange things. But when it comes to creating and exploring sounds, analog machines are unbeatable in sound and interactivity.
Q: Favorite Club/Venue and why does it stand out from the rest?
A certain place in Berlin near a large mass of water, i would say. Some would call it a “Bucht”. It’s a magical little place, where people have built something out of love. Commercial success is not the focus here, and that creates a wonderful atmosphere for artistry and playful enjoyment. Sadly it won’t be here for much longer, it seems.
Q: What was the driving force that got you into DJing/Producing and when?
I started DJing with my close friend Jack back in highschool, we must’ve been about 16 years old at the time. At first it was just for fun, but then we really started getting into it. I ended up trying to edit a track, because I thought it needed a louder hi-hat. Then I realized that I should probably just make my own music, if I’m not happy with what’s out there.
Q: If you were to have a superpower, what would it be and why?
The ability to stop the flow of time would be quite cool, i guess.
Q: What makes you prefer a club (or crowd) more than another?
Realness. If people are really just there to enjoy the music and the people, to let go of all the social baggage that we all carry in our daily lives. A good club is not a place to show off, to make Instagram stories or to make yourself seen. It’s a place where people can dance their heart out and not feel judged or watched for once.
Q: What’s your biggest fear while performing?
Random technical problems.
Q: 1 person you’d dream to have a coffee with?
Bob Ross.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score from the past, what movie would you choose and why?
I honestly can’t say. There are so many amazing films out there and writing a score is an art form in itself. But hypothetically, writing some ambient stuff for Kubrick's 2001 would be crazy.
Q: Recommend a Hidden Gem in your Home country
There are a lot of empty industrial areas around here. Stumble around and you might find a little rave already
Q: 3 Tracks that got you into electronic music
Modeselektor - German Clap
Lemaitre - Strobes Pt. 2
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - Garden
Q: Tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for this year.
There are loads of great releases coming on LOKD in the months ahed. I’m also working on a vinyl release on another label for AVEM and we’ve got some amazing remixers on board. That’s all I’m saying for now!
Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners don’t know.
I have a strong dislike for goat cheese.
Q: Last but not least, do you have any questions for us?
Avem: What’s the weirdest answer you ever got in one of these interviews?
Toka: More of like weirdest/funniest interview: Darko Milosevic's14 Fakts
