Hi, I’m Darin Epsilon from the USA and I’ve been pushing underground electronic music for about 20 years. I was born and raised in Chicago, lived in Los Angeles for 8 years, and now I’m currently based in Berlin.
I run a label called Perspectives Digital and we release top quality Melodic House & Techno, Progressive House, and Deep House from artists located all over the world.
Q: Favorite Club/Venue and why does it stand out from the rest?
I feel really comfortable at Sisyphos in Berlin. It’s not like any club I’ve ever been to in my life. There are multiple rooms with music that ranges from Deep House to Nu Disco to Progressive House to hard pounding Techno. My favorite area is the beach stage, and the best time to go is during the summer. Like many other Berlin clubs, the music plays continuously from Friday night until Monday morning. They sell food and drinks so there’s no reason to ever leave!
Q: What was the driving force that got you into DJing/Producing and when?
I grew up in Chicago, the birthplace of House music, during the 90’s so I was exposed to it very early on through the radio. I would discover most of the tracks on late night programs and later search for them on Napster. My first job was in a record shop and that further fueled my obsession for this type of music.
Q: If you were to have a superpower, what would it be and why?
I’d like to be able to travel through time. I could go backwards in time to fix any past mistakes or regrets, or go forward in time to know exactly what’s coming. Maybe I could’ve done something to warn everyone about COVID-19.
Q: If you had to play 1 more track at your favorite club, what track would it be and why?
Hopefully that day never comes, but if I had to pick just one, then I’d probably go with a classic like Leftfield’s “Song of Life”, since that is one of the earliest tracks that got me interested in producing Progressive House.
Q: What’s your biggest fear while performing?
My biggest fear, asides from making a very noticeable mistake in front of everyone, is playing music that people don’t understand or respond to.
Q: 1 person you’d dream to have a coffee with?
Leonardo da Vinci
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score from the past, what movie would you choose and why?
The soundtrack for Dances with Wolves has always been one of my absolute favorites. There aren’t very many movies where I enjoy the soundtrack as much as or even more than the film itself. Another soundtrack that I’ve really felt was Requiem For A Dream by Clint Mantsell.
Q: 3 Albums that got you into electronic music
Robert Miles - Dreamland
The Prodigy - The Fat of the Land
Leftfield - Leftism
Q: Tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for this year.
My EP on Katermukke was released recently featuring two new tracks of mine titled “Ifrit” and “Meteori”. I also just released “Perspectives Around The World, Vol. 2” with my track titled “Day of Remembrance”.
Next I will be releasing Miss Monique’s remix of my track “My Own Time” featuring vocalist Alice Rose on my label Perspectives Digital. The original is my most popular track of all time after it went viral on YouTube. Then in June I will be releasing an EP that I collaborated with Marc DePulse on, which will be released on Dave Seaman and Steve Parry’s Selador imprint.
Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners don’t know.
I’m so bad at naming my own tracks that I draw inspiration from nerdy stuff I used to do as a kid like playing Final Fantasy, Starcraft, and Magic: The Gathering.
Q: Last but not least, do you have any questions for us?
Darin Epsilon: What’s one thing I haven’t done yet that you would like to see from me? A livestream from an event or a full album perhaps? Let me know at @darinepsilon on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter!
