14 FAKTS INTERVIEW WITHDELTECH

04/02/2025

UK-based house outfit Deltech have had a mammoth twelve months, boasting Beatport #1’s, heavy rotation on BBC Radio 1, and a string of red-hot label debuts for the likes of Hot Creations, Toolroom, Nothing Else Matters, and South Of Saturn. Keeping the pace going in 2025, the Derby-born pair head to the latter’s flagship label, Repopulate Mars, for the first time with their three-track ‘Groove With It’ EP.

“We are over the moon to be joining Lee Foss’ imprint Repopulate Mars; this has been a goal of ours from the start.” - Deltech

Title cut ‘Groove With It’ is a peak-time house jam with an electrifying groove at its core ignited by funky bass licks, sensuous vocals, and airtight drum programming. ‘Music Is My God’ then sees the duo layer a classic female vocal sample over an intoxicating backdrop of breaks-laden beats, rumbling low-end and playful synth work before ‘Open Your Mind’ takes listeners deeper into the groove as hooky spoken word fragments ebb and flow amongst hypnotic rhythms and edgy synth leads.

Q: Please introduce yourself

Yoo it's Deltech, a DJ duo from Derby, UK (Luke & George).

Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

It would probably have to be Carl Cox. He's a legend in the game and has been pivotal in shaping the electronic music scene,  the stories he would have from back in the day of the first raves and the underground world would definitely spark some interesting conversations.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

This one is easy, we’d want the power of instant USB or headphone retrieval. If you could snap your fingers and any lost USB or our headphones would magically appear in our hand, fully intact and ready to go. No more frantic searching through bags or panicking when we realize the most important thing is missing right before a gig or after. We've lost too many usbs and recently two pairs of headphones.

Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?

Something like Blade Runner or Mad Max, maybe a dark club scene where our track could build tension with what was happening within the movie or maybe a chase scene through a dystopian city. Something along those lines.

Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?

For both of us, it’s always been Solardo. We’ve been huge fans of their music from the start and have always looked up to them. Every time we see them perform, we walk away feeling more inspired to create our own tracks. The energy they bring to their sets leaves us craving more, pushing us to elevate our own performances and keep pushing boundaries in our music. Solardo’s influence on our journey has been undeniable, fueling our passion and driving us to chase that same level of energy and creativity in everything we do.

Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?

Our journey began during the strange times of COVID, an uncertain period for everyone, but for us, it became an opportunity to really dive into our music. With all the extra time on our hands, we focused on mastering production, spending hours every day on Ableton, Facetiming each other, and pushing ourselves to get better. Having each other to lean on and challenge ourselves made all the difference.

Our ideas, combined, sparked something special, and the support we've received from friends we've met along the way has been invaluable. We wouldn’t be where we are now without their encouragement and help.

Q: Everyone goes through ups and downs, what’s one habit you adopt to push through the downs?

The downs come more often than you'd think. Sometimes it’s something small like a period of not much happening, or hitting a creative block. It makes you question whether you’re ever going to get anywhere. During those times we have to rely on each other to stay positive and lift each other up. It’s not easy, but we remind ourselves to focus on what we’ve already achieved and just keep pushing forward, no matter how challenging things get. At the end of the day, this is our passion, and as long as we’re enjoying the process, that’s all that matters.

When it gets tough, we keep going because what else can you do?

Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?

For us, it was definitely Groovebox at Nottingham on the Bunker stage. Bunker has been a huge part of our DJ journey since the very beginning, so seeing the stage stand out as one of the best at the festival was incredibly special. To then watch so many people enjoying and vibing to the music we had created was an unforgettable feeling.

Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?

We've definitely gone through a few phases with our music, figuring out where we truly felt comfortable and where we want to take our brand. We started out focused on tech house, then veered more towards techno, only to realize that what we really wanted to do all along was stick with tech house and minimal deep tech.

We’ve always had love for the genre's deeper, more atmospheric sounds, and we’re drawn to the older styles of it. That’s where we feel at home. Our sound is constantly evolving, and we're excited to keep pushing it forward while staying true to what we love.

Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?

As we mentioned before, while we love the sound of techno, we believe it's important to stay focused within a specific genre to build and grow our brand. Being too broad can sometimes dilute that growth. That said, techno is a genre we still deeply connect with, and we continue to enjoy techno parties for the pure love of the music. It's a big part of who we are, and we’ll always have a special place for it in our journey.

Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?

"La Mezcla - Paul Kalkbrenner Remix" is the track that truly got me into electronic music. I’ll never forget the first time I heard it, my brother took me to Amnesia, and this song was blasting through the speakers. It was the first time I experienced house music in a real club setting, and the energy was unreal. That moment was a game-changer for me.

"Benediction - Hot Natured" was a track I couldn’t stop listening to when I first got into house music. I had it on repeat all summer. The groove, the vibe, everything about it just clicked.

"Gimme, Gimme, Gimme - ABBA" holds a special place for both of us. We’ve got memories of listening to it as kids, cruising around in our parents' cars. We even drop it at some of our gigs. It’s amazing how a song like that can still resonate, no matter how much time passes.

Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?

There’s a spot not far from us, high up in the countryside, called Alport Heights, overlooking the city below. It’s the perfect place, especially in the summer when the sun is setting. The view, combined with the peaceful surroundings, would make it feel truly special. We’ve even done a livestream there before, back when clubs were off-limits. The setting is unforgettable, and we truly think it would be the ideal location for something memorable. combining nature, great music, and a personal connection.

Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?

This year will be our biggest yet. We’ve secured bookings at some of the largest raves we’ve ever played. We’re also excited to be releasing on some of the same labels we released with last year, as well as some new ones that we can’t wait to work with. It’s shaping up to be a massive year, and we’re ready to bring our sound to even more people!

Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?

We actually started off under the name Fadex. At the time, we thought it was cool, but then we quickly realized it sounded more like a delivery company than a DJ duo! It wasn’t the vibe we were going for, so we decided to make a change and rebrand to something that better reflected our sound and energy.
