Q: Please introduce yourselves.
I’m Jay de Lys, a 27-year-old DJ & producer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, exploring all the sub-genres and branches of house music. I’m a huge fan of movies, football and cats!
Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with and why?
Music-wise, I would say Marco Carola. He’s my main influence and the artist who got me into what I do and make today.
Q: If you were to have a superpower, what would it be and why?
Teleportation for sure so that I can avoid early morning flights!
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
Scarface 100%. My favourite movie of all time!
Q: Who influenced you the most in your music career? And who influenced you the most in your personal life?
As I said previously, Marco Carola for being the first DJ who gave me the “I want to do this for life” feeling. In my personal life, my mom and dad, of course, and a special mention to my good old friend Juan Manuel that pushed me into music production.
Q: Tell us about your journey, the good and the bad that got you to where you are today.
It is safe to say that this is a very long and hard path. Thinking about the early days when I was locked in my bedroom studio, making beats all day in my parent’s home and all the worries that a traditional family can feel from that. But it was my dream since the beginning, and nothing is more powerful than that. I’m so happy to see my family and friends proud of what I’m achieving at the moment. I’m not even close to where I want to be, and that’s what keeps me going. I’m 100% in love with what I do.
Q: Everyone goes through ups and downs, what’s one habit you adopt to push through the downs?
Just try to take some time off. It’s pretty hard as I’m a super anxious person, and I’m always thinking about improving, learning and taking a step further. But when the music isn’t flowing, for me, the best solution is taking my head somewhere else until creativity kicks in again.
Q: What is one pro work ethic that you would recommend to the readers/listeners?
Always keep learning and investigating. Check interviews and masterclasses from fellow artists that you look up to. You can always do better, no matter how good or experienced you are in what you do.
Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?
I feel my music is constantly evolving as I try to incorporate new sounds and merge them with my style without losing my essence. I think it’s super important to stay away from the trends and stay true to what you feel. That’s how I think you can stand out and keep everything flowing naturally.
Q:If you had to follow another music genre, which one would you pick and why?
I’m a big fan of almost all kinds of music, to be honest. Right now, I would say rap/hip-hop because it’s what I’m into at the moment. But years ago, I would say punk or metal.
Q: What are 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?
In no particular order, I would choose Daft Punk ‘Aerodynamic’, Skrillex ‘Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites’, and Axwell ‘Heart Is King’. These are just the tracks that really left a mark on me.
Q: Tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for this year.
Im releasing my most special EP to date on Jamie Jones’ new label Paradise. A dream came true! I also have a remix incoming on a major label and some collaborations with huge artists I admire. I’m also touring Europe this summer and making my debut at Amnesia Ibiza with the Elrow family, and I couldn’t be happier!
Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners don’t know.
I can’t miss a game of my football team River Plate. I even had my phone between decks streaming an extremely important match once while DJing!
