Q: Introduce yourself then describe yourself in one word.
My name is Jonathan Kaspar. I am a DJ and producer living in Cologne/Germany. I’m releasing my music since three years on labels like Crosstown Rebels, Objektivity, Pets Recordings and Kompakt´s KX.Describe yourself in one word: Driven.
Q: Club or Festival and why?
The answer is for both questions - The perfect match for me is the mixture: After a warm and amazing long festival summer with a lot of open airs, I cannot wait to go back to the smaller, more intimate and darker clubs. But I am pretty sure after a while and a cold winter, I’m already looking forward to play outside again. As a DJ, I’m playing digital with USB, as it is the perfect solution for me and always works really smooth – at least most of the time. In the studio, it’s a mixture between analog machines like the Moog Sub37 or the Vermona DRM1 and a lot of digital plug-ins.
Q: Analog or Digital and why?
Definitely the location of the 4GB festival in Tbilisi: It’s an old satellite factory, by far the most-impressive location for a festival I have seen. It is in the middle of nowhere and suddenly just pops out after a dusty and holey 3km road which just raises the tension - because you can only reach the venue via that road (slowly).
Q: What was the driving force that got you into DJing/Producing and when?
My love for music. I started deejaying around 10 years ago.
Q: If you were to have a superpower, what would it be and why?
Flying for sure, you see everything from a different angle and it must feel so easy.
Q: Favorite day of the week?
Saturday. You have the night full of music right in front of you and also Sunday is still to come, which is my second favorite day.
Q: Favorite sport and why?
Basketball, I used to play it excessively until I lost one tooth and moved away for my studies. It was my passion before music.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score from the past, what movie would you choose and why?
Not a movie in particular, but I think someday in the future I would love to set music to an underwater documentation: No spoken words - just warm and dark soundscapes to wrap around and catch the vibe of the ocean.
Q: Recommend a Hidden Gem in your Home country
Proper German food after a rave helps to fight any hangover.
Q: 3 tracks that got you into electronic music
Mathew Johnson – Decompression
Sucker DJ´s – Lotta Lovin`(Paradise Soul Mix)
Patrick Chardronnet – Eve By Day
Q: Tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for this year (Exclusive release/announcement)
I´m having a 2-track-release on Parquet Recordings in March, followed by a single on Motek, Beat Boutique. Also I made two tracks with Darin Epsilon and we´re currently looking where to place it.
Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most of your followers don’t know
I finished my medicine study and could work as a doctor, but until now I have chosen music.
Q: Last but not least, do you have any question for us?
Jonathan: Why the name Toka?
Toka: We love the Japanese culture hence Toka means "And" in Japanese and it sounded catchy so we chose it!
