Known for her impeccable selections that she has been sharing around the globe during the past two decades, Lola Palmer is considered by many as one of Europe’s finest deep techno selectors. Her consistent stream of DJ mixes has earned her an impressive following through channels like RTS.FM and MixCult – gathering up to hundreds of thousands of listeners per mix.
After collaborating with the likes of Terry Lee Brown Jr, Lola Palmer continues her musical journey with releases on Mixcult, a remix on Bondage Music, and a debut vinyl EP on the well-regarded BERG AUDIO label, featuring reworks from the scene’s favorites, Janeret & Priku ft. Dinu. In 2022, Lola Palmer was back on BERG AUDIO, joining the label’s “ELEMENTS” series – her superb originals were remixed by one of today’s most in-demand producers, Kolter, and a key artist from the ever-growing Romanian scene, Nu Zau.
There is no doubt Lola is only at the start of her artistic path, with many more exciting news to come.
Q: Please introduce yourself
Nice to meet you guys. I am Lola Palmer, Ukrainian DJ based in Amsterdam for almost a decade.
Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?
Unfortunately it is not a realistic dream but I would like to have a coffee with George Michael. I grew up on his music and am completely in love with his beautiful voice. Would be very special to talk with him about life.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Immortality haha. Would be curious to see what is gonna happen in the world in 100 years or more.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
Don’t really have specific movie in mind but I would choose romantic and deep melodrama.
Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?
When in 2006 I started my dj journey, my biggest inspiration was The Timewriter. His music completely matched my taste and I had goosebumps from every track I’ve heard from this artist, and I still do. He was an idol for me in deep house music and I wanted to be like him. More than 10 years ago we met in real life and I told him about his influence on me. It was a special talk, which I still remember.
Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?
You know, when I was a kid, the music was my safe place where I could jump to forget the reality. I listened to lots of radio stations, made records on my cassettes and then played it during school disco :) I always wanted to connect my life with music to show others the beauty of it.
Q: Everyone goes through ups and downs, what’s one habit you adopt to push through the downs?
Definitely running and going to the gym. It helps to clear the mind and focus on positive sides.
Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?
It was in Frankfurt in Tanzhaus West club where I played 2 years ago for the first time. I played 3 hours but I got connected with the crowd from the first minutes till the last ones. All 3 hours we were one, it felt like magic. These moments make me crazy happy. It's not always that you can catch the vibe with the crowd, which is normal.
Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?
After almost two decades, I still am loyal to deep house music. I feel this music, I can express myself through this sound. It’s very important for me to stay loyal to yourself and be yourself.
Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?
I would pick house anyway haha and you know already why :)
Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?
The Timewriter - So free,
Pete Moss - Sometimes,
Marshall Jefferson's Mushrooms remixed by The Timewriter.
I played these tracks in my first sets, they are classic for me. The vibe they have touched me so deeply and make me happy.
Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?
To be honest it is a bit difficult to say because I left Ukraine 8 years ago. Back in the days, I used to work in Boom Boom Room Club. It was one of the best clubs, with lots of cool parties and festivals. Unfortunately the club doesn’t exist anymore.
Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?
This year I plan to make a few releases, and one of them is my remix of Cristina Lazic's “Beach Escape", that will be available on her label this January. Later on I'll have an EP on Traumer's get-traum, featuring a remix from Alci & will also make a come back on Berg Audio for a two tracker that will feature a remix from Voigtmann - a few other remixes are planned as well, but don't have the release dates yet, exciting times ahead!
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?
I love to drink black tea with oat milk :)
Beach Escape EP - Cristina Lazic, Antonio Romano, Luna Ash [La Zic]
