Q: Please introduce yourself
Hey! My name is Alexandru Voicu. I'm a DJ and music producer based in Bucharest. I grew up in Sfântu Gheorghe, a small village in the Danube Delta, where my journey with music began. Beyond music, I'm passionate about physics, the stock market, fitness, and soccer.
Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?
Neil deGrasse Tyson—because physics has always fascinated me, and I'd love to pick his brain. Or Benjamin Graham, to gain deeper insights into investment strategies and the stock market.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Time manipulation. It's one of the most powerful abilities—being able to slow down or speed up time would be a game-changer. I could extend studio sessions, enhance live performances, or jump seamlessly between gigs.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
Interstellar, without a doubt. It's one of my all-time favorite movies, and the way it uses sound and silence to create tension and emotion is mind-blowing. I'd craft a score with evolving minimal textures, pulsating rhythms, and deep drones to complement its atmosphere.
Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?
There isn't just one person, but one of my earliest influences was Luciano. His sound, his energy in the booth, and his ability to blend minimal and organic elements were eye-opening for me. His remix of Argy's Love Dose was a major turning point.
Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?
I got into music as a kid when I discovered a set of Omnitronic Twin players. From that moment, I was hooked. Growing up, I had the chance to experience the club scene early on, and without realizing it, DJing became an obsession. In 2023, Mahony launched Take Notes, a project that quickly became a priority for me and has given me some of the best moments of my career so far.
Q: Everyone goes through ups and downs, what's one habit you adopt to push through the downs?
Staying disciplined—going to the gym, eating well, and staying consistent with music. If I'm not feeling creative, I take a step back and read, but I always make sure to do something music-related daily, even if it's just organizing samples. That routine keeps me moving forward.
Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?
The Take Notes Showcase at Sunwaves—B2B with Mahony and Brad Brunner. The energy, the sunrise, the crowd—it was unreal. Playing for 12 hours straight with your best friends is something you don't forget.
Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?
I started with a broader electronic sound, but over time, I refined it into what it is today—Glitchy Minimal House. I'm still shaping it, incorporating influences from disco, classic house and not only.
Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?
Probably '80s music. I find myself revisiting that era often.
Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?
Argy – Love Dose (Luciano Remix)
NTFO – Filter
A Better Light (The Martinez Brothers Remix)
Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?
Romania is full of incredible hidden spots. Mamaia, where Sunwaves takes place, is an obvious choice, but I'd also say the mountains or even Sfântu Gheorghe, my hometown in the Danube Delta (look it up, it's worth it!).
Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?
I started the year with an EP on Take Notes alongside Kov. I have two more EPs lined up—one with Brad Brunner and EdiP, plus a few solo projects in the works.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?
Some of my studio friends call me Harry (as in Harry Potter), and let's just say I have a history of getting carried away with tequila :))
