Nick Devon, is an Athens based DJ/producer whose involvement with electronic music has spanned more than two decades. His musical journey commenced at 16, when he started experimenting with toy pianos and pretty much anything that could produce notes. Before long he was playing his father’s vinyls and from here, quickly advanced to DJing and producing.
Q: Introduce yourself then describe yourself in one word
Hello, my name is Nick Devon and I am here to entertain you.
Q: Analog or Digital and why?
Analog AND Digital. Never only analog, never only digital for me. The analog sound offers unique, raw results, sometimes unrefined, creative mistakes and that is the beauty of it. Digital on the other hand is fast, it’s there when you need it, always consistent and does the job fast and precise. For my setup I need both.
Q: Favorite Club/Venue and why does it stand out from the rest?
Talking about clubs I haven’t already played at, I am going to say Stereo Montreal because it allows the DJs to play marathon sets and expand their musical boundaries. Also the sound system is one of a kind. If we are talking about Clubs I have already performed at, then I have to mention The GrandFactory in Beirut and Playground in Malta because they were the best moments for me as a DJ, crowd reaction and vibe. Also The Egg in London for the super underground and kinky vibe.
Q: What was the driving force that got you into DJing/Producing and when?
I call myself a DJ since 2009 because that was the year I played as a dj at my first gig as Nick Devon. I've been a producer for more than 20 years in the business under a different alias, producing from Trance, psy-trance, Drum & Bass and Progressive. The driving force of becoming a Producer / DJ is the same for both… Music, creativity, sharing my art with like-minded people and crowd and a way to get out of my comfort zone.
Q: If you were to have a superpower, what would it be and why?
I’ve always dreamt of being able to Teleport. Being at any place of the earth whenever I want to, is my biggest wish which unfortunately will stay as a wish.
Q: Favorite dish?
It has to be one of the dishes I love to make: Argentinian Flat Iron Steak with mashed potatoes & veggies. Also a sushi lover.
Q: What’s your biggest fear while performing?
I used to have a stage fear, like getting on the stage and suddenly numerous people are staring at you. The more experience I get, the less I feel scared but I always have these 5 seconds of anxiety right before I stand on the stage. After I put the first track, my fear is gone and I start to enjoy.
Q: 1 person you’d dream to have a coffee with?
David Lynch
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score from the past, what movie would you choose and why?
Even though I am sure that Angelo Badalamenti’s musical skills are from another planet and I could never do better than him, I would love to be able to do the score for Mullholand Drive (A David Lynch movie)
Q: Recommend a Hidden Gem in your Home country
I love the island of Crete because of its diversity. Northern coast of Crete is civilized and highly touristic but there are many places in Southern Crete where the rocky mountains and the wild sea make the best landscape for a dreamy Rave
Q: 3 tracks that got you into electronic music
1. U96 - Das Boot
2. Union Jack - Two Full Moons & A Trout (Caspar Pound Mix)
3. The Prodigy – Weather Experience
Q: Tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for this year (Exclusive release/announcement)
Right now all my focus and energy is to finish my album that will come out on Steyoyoke. I haven’t decided if this will be an 8 or 10 or even more tracks album since I produce everyday, jam in my studio and I have more and more ideas that need to be gathered up and finalized. Definitely before the dawn of 2019 the album will be out.
Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most of your followers don’t know
The “robot” vocals in my track The Poem are done by me. The name Miroir that I first introduced in this track is actually one of my monikers that I use occasionally when I want to record weird and out-of-this-world vocals. You can find vocals like this in my track Pallas and Blank Memory too.
Q: Last but not least, do you have any question for us?
Nick Devon: Do you think there are people on other planets? (quoted :p)
Toka: taking a guess and saying there is, but the question is do they have electronic music?
